"Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited.
Imagination encircles the world.”

Resources for Parents:
Light Up Your Child’s MindIn this book written especially for parents, Drs. Renzulli and Reis illustrate the crucial role that parents can play in their children's development. Parents can uncover the hidden potential of daydreamers, rebels and one-track minds, and gifted behaviors—basic smarts, high levels of task commitment, and creativity—can be fostered in bright children, even unmotivated ones. The concrete guidelines in Light Up Your Child’s Mind will inspire parents to help their kids identify their strengths and interests, foster a love of learning, and set them on the path to a rewarding future.

How is gifted different from the regular classroom?
Gifted education is designed to meet the needs of the gifted learner.
These characteristics include a need for a more rapid pace of instruction,
a greater focus on higher order thinking skills, more sophisticated
products/performance, more complex tasks, an emphasis on multiple
perspectives and an exposure to a broadened scope of information.  To
further ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of the gifted learner,
the teacher(s), parent(s) and student together develop an education plan
for the individual gifted learner.

 What are the benefits?
Educational plans are developed to meet the student’s individual needs (psychosocial, emotional, physical and academic).
Educational plans are implemented by a professional staff trained in understanding the nature and needs of gifted learners.
Opportunities are provided for gifted students to interact with other gifted students

Philosophy
In Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) there is a commitment to nurturing and educating gifted students by providing a climate where the talents and potential of gifted students are valued and fostered throughout the entire school day.  The curriculum is significant, relevant, and rigorous. It is delivered by teachers who understand and value gifted students and have been specially trained to meet the learning needs of the gifted.
Vision
The vision of the gifted program is to provide a climate which values and nurtures the talents and potential of gifted students and prepares them to be contributing members of society and successful in their future careers.
Mission
The mission of the gifted program is to open the door to potential for gifted students.
